A.  Child Protection Legislation (State and Federal)
  1. Enact the Alaska Resolution in your state, to reject the controversial research on the impact of child sexual abuse;
  2. Keep up to date on pending legislation;
  3. Contact your legislators and let them know how you want them to vote; and
  4. Spread the word to friends, and get more people involved.

  1. Learn more about child sexual abuse;
  2. Provide public forums to educate your community;
  3. Participate in, or organize a child advocacy organization;
  4. Assure that all types of youth services are providing thorough background checks on employees and volunteers;
  5. Implement abuse prevention curricula in all schools, beginning at the Kindergarten level;
  6. Know where and how to check sex offender registries;
  7. Enlist the assistance of community professionals, clergy, and law enforcement to donate their time & services;
  8. Report, and encourage others to report, suspected child abuse to local authorities;
  9. Provide information on State & Federal Victim Services; and
  10. Promote URGENT Child Protection Campaigns

This handbook can also be ordered in hard copy, and is available in English, Spanish, and on audiotape.
  2. An excellent and comprehensive online manual presented by the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN) is "Caregivers of Young Children: Preventing and Responding to Child Maltreatment."
  3. "Working With the Courts in Child Protection" (NCCAN).
  4. For foster parents, "Substitute Care Providers: Helping Abused and Neglected Children" (NCCAN).
  5. For teachers, "The Role of Educators in the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect" (NCCAN).
  6. "Protecting Our Children From Abuse and Neglect -- Caring Adults: What A Child Needs Most" -- presented by the American Psychological Association.
